Hi,

Some of the applications you have asked about do more than determine the TVI curves.

I know that a few years ago a number press consultants who developed his or her own spread sheets to do things like determine the TVI curve for a each color  for press calibration and do other functions such as max chroma,  hue error and print contrast just to name a few things.

My point is that it is not too terribly difficult to develop a spread sheet to determine tvi for a press calibration. If I am remembering correctly, I used ColorPort to capture   XYZ data and then export the XYZ dat for my spread sheet and then use XYZ to describe TVI.  Once you get the dot values you then adjust plate curves to hit the ISO TVI  numbers.

That is if you want, TVI. I you are using the G7 method then one place to start is to look at the Curve Link tool.

We use Excel to help calibrate and linearize our presses.
It outputs the values to put in each part of our RIP calibration .txt file.
We still have to manally enter the values in our RIP's calibration editor.

Have you checked out the Techkon SpectroPlate printing plate measuring device? It very quickly measures the step wedge on the plate and displays the % dot measurement, transfer curve, and dot gain curve.

If you are using G7 the Techkon SpectroDens spectro-densitometer supports G7 directly. The SpectroDens takes spectral and density readings of printed sheets and will display the colorimetric and density results on the device or the computer.

The software is bundled with both devices and has the ability to export all of the data to an Excel Spread sheet. Both devices come with a risk free, 30 day money back guarantee.

I work for Techkon USA so I am a little biased, but these things work extremely well. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

Have you take a look at PerfX Press Curve™?
It can easily calculate TVI or Gray balance curves.

You can try free Tone Value Increase ( Dot Gain ) compensation calculator at www.calcurve.com.
It calculates Dot Gain compensation curve by 20 Dot Area measurements with X-Rite 500 series device.
It's only first step, but it's free!..

Dear Aron,

I would say that there are a number of softwares available in the market that would help you to standardize your press. But once you do that maintaining the standardized condition is the most difficult part. So i would suggest you to look into a software that would help you to standardize first and then to control it.

You can also try the GMG Print Control Pro which is used for standardization of the press. And you have the Rapid Check software also alomg with the GMG Print Con trol Pro to make sure that the press is within the permissible limits.

Regards
Jim

From personal experience if you want it quick and easy try PressSign. Does what it's supposed to do without a great deal of fuss. Press Signature is great to but nowhere near as user friendly. I found that the scoring system employed by PressSign is also helpful when showing your Minders the result of the test. Red light on a linear plate turns to green light with all the ink weights in line with the standard and a nice compensation curve applied. Suspicious unhelpful Minder becomes Happy lets do it a again Minder. No blood spilt = good day at work. Laughing

+1 for PressSign, does what it says on the box. We use ProofSign too, with these we can manage ISO standards well, and the scoring and info on presssign is a real booster.

We recently migrated to Mellow Colour's PrintSpec and have had no regrets. It's very easy to use even for a novice but as your experience increases so does the availability of more specialised tools which can initially be hidden away in the background. Also, the proof verification software is included, so don't get ripped off by other suppliers for this!

Does what is says on the tin and much more!

Another important factor is that you should not expect to just buy some software, install it and all of your worries are over! You will need support and some hand holding to implement this correctly. Our short experience of the first software package that we initially installed was that the support is truly appalling.
