Faster GMB Eye-One Pro "Rev B"!!!

I just received the new GMB Eye-One Pro “Rev B” and all I can say is WOW! The new Eye-One is identical to the original “Rev A” but only faster. Using the also new Eye-One Match 3.2a, you can take advantage of the faster spectrophotometer (I tried also with ProfileMaker 5.0.3 but you can’t read any faster than before, probably the SW has to be modified to take advantage of the new HW). GretagMacbeth says that “Rev B” is twice faster than “Rev A” but my impression is more like 3 times faster! You can read from side to side of the scanning ruler in 2 seconds and have a perfect reading and exactly the same accuracy as before. I did the TC9.18 RGB Testchart (918 samples) in about 3 minutes! I can’t wait to see the Eye-One IO robot, reading at that speed… keep waiting. The other welcome improvement are the rounded Teflon pads that provide a smoother movement over the printed media.

HI, could you tell us how do you get it, It is an upgrade program or a new device?
Could previous owners exhage the Rev A for the Rev B?
thanks in advance.

It’s a new instrument, a revised one. All new Eye-Ones Pro are “Rev B”, so if you buy a new instrument you should receive a “Rev B”. I guess will be an exchange program at some cost if you want to upgrade, but there’s no official information about that.

Xavier;

To clarify the Rev B. issue GretagMacbeth says this:

The new devices are marked with Rev. B on the serial number sticker and
have the following serial number or higher: (The serial number is also
indicated on the side sticker of the Eye - One packaging.)

  • Eye - One Pro Rev B S/N 120139 and higher
  • Eye - One Pro UV Cut Rev B S/N 203287 and higher
Since April 11 th, all end - user packages ( Eye - One Design, Eye -
One Photo, Eye- One Proof and Eye - One XT) have included the new
    accelerated Eye - One device.

Whether there is an upgrade from an old Eye-One Pro device to Rev B,
GretagMacbeth has also indicated that within 30 days they will soon be
announcing a ‘Customer Loyalty Program’ that will allow this kind of
upgrade, and at substantial savings. Once announced, CHROMIX will post
this information and include it in the next ColorNews issue.

Hope that helps.

Could let know the new features? I can’t find info in the GMB site
Thanks

Xavier;

As of April 11, 2005 GretagMacbeth has been shipping Rev B of the
Eye-One Pro in all bundles packages, which with the new Match v3.2 is
almost twice as fast as the previous versions and glides smoother with
no pauses or hesitation required at the end of rows. There are also
some new teflon pads on the device to aid in this.

So what exactly is it about the device that makes it so much faster…certainly not just the teflon coated feet. So there must be new hardware…or firmware. The hardware specs look the same in the brochure.

Does this increased speed come also with increased accuracy…i.e. less misreadings?

I think your question can be answered only by someone at GretagMacbeth.
I guess that something inside is updated and must use a new firmware.
Regarding the increased accuracy, I think that will be the same as before, but, because of the faster movement it’s easier to have a more constant velocity and the Teflon pads that provide a smoother ride the Rev B will be easier to use and in general less prone to erratic readings.

Ok, I just got a new Rev B i1 (not because I just hadda have it…I needed a new device to use at a client site). And yes, in ProfileMaker 5.0.3 I see no difference in measurement speed or performance. Same old tempramental device that I occasionally consider throwing through the window. I tried it with i1Match 3.2 and didn’t see much difference between it and my Rev A model, but I was only measuring the i1 RGB Easy target

Maybe you’re on to something here, because I’m having some fairly serious trouble getting my Rev B UV model to measure anything in strip mode within MeasureTool. I was starting to think I got a lemon, but it passes diagnostics with flying colors.

The target I need to measure was created with the Test Chart Generator within MeasureTool and it will read fine with the Rev A model, but the Rev B model gives so many misreadings, that I eventually give up. I’ve tried all kinds of charts, with and without gaps. I can read the gapless TC9.18 within MeasureTool, but I have to take 10 seconds per strip or I get errors, and of course it works fine in patch mode. :imp:

So, can anyone with a Rev B model (UV or otherwise) comment on how the device performs within MeasureTool?

Strange, I have no trouble reading with Rev B in Measure Tool 5.0.3. Yesterday I read without problems the ECI2002 (A3), only some strips failed with out reason, but at second try it worked. As you, I have the feeling also that PM5 needs to be optimized for this newer device to work perfectly.
Regarding, speed in Eye-One Match, I definitely feel the speed, in my opinion is more than double the speed of Rev B.
I hope your unit is not damaged.

Xavier

I just heard back from GMB support. Apparently PMP 5.0.4 will be the first version that will be optimized for the Rev B models. Its not officially released yet, but they were kind enough to send me a link. I’ve heard from some others with Rev Bs and they indicated they were having some trouble in MeasureTool as well, but tht the device was definitely speedier in i1Match.
