Gamut between profile and image not matching

I have an issue with ColorThink that I’m trying to understand-

I open a profile and view it in 3D mode. In this case its US Web Coated (SWOP).

I then take an image that has been converted to US Web Coated (SWOP) and view it in the 3D graph window with the profile. What results is a whole bunch of points outside the gamut of the profile.

How can I have colors outside the profile when it has been converted to the profile. I would expect all of the colors to fall within the profile that is assigned to the image.

Thanks

This is probably a rendering intent issue.

My guess is that the rendering intent for your image is relative colorimetric (which pulls the white point up to the top of the grapher), but the default rendering intent for your profile is absolute colorimetric.
